Explore the essentials of creating dimensional works using paper and other easily accessible materials and tools. Students will investigate folding techniques and pop-up mechanics designed to bring their projects to life during this one-day workshop. Suitable for intermediate to advanced students who wish to expand their skills, share knowledge, working and learning with master book artist Colette Fu.
Guest Bio
Philadelphia-based artist Colette Fu received her MFA in fine art photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2003 and began devising complex compositions that incorporate photography and pop-up paper engineering. Her books are included in the collections of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Getty Research Institute, Library of Congress, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and in many private and archival collections. Fu’s numerous awards include a 2020 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant, a Meggendorfer Prize, and a Fulbright Research Fellowship to China. In 2017, Fu created the world’s largest pop-up book at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. She teaches pop-up courses and community workshops internationally.
