Denise Harris: Art Untethered
Past Event

Denise Harris has a broad and diverse life’s work in small metal sculptures, jewelry making, embossed serigraphs, woodcarving, and printmaking. Additionally, she is a longtime contributor at Bainbridge Performing Arts, both as an actor and behind the scenes in various aspects of set design and decoration. In conversation with Chief Curator Greg Robinson and Education & Community Engagement Lead Jenna d’Anna, Denise will share a cross-section of her portfolio that numbers in the thousands of artworks. Denise has a quirky sense of humor and her small metal sculptures are often created, titled, and embellished with a whimsical play on words. Audience Q&A and reception to follow.

Guest bio

Denise Harris is a Renaissance Woman, not only multi-talented in a number of disciplines and crafts, but a master of those fields. At last count, she is accomplished in the following: graphic design, sculpture, leaded glass window-making, wood-carving, drawing, watercolors, silk screening, carpentry, poster design, jewelry making, set construction, acting, singing, mobile construction, wagon building, sign-carving, set-painting, acrylics, print-making, and building musical instruments. Perhaps the artwork most familiar to Denise’s public on Bainbridge Island, where she moved in 1981, are the miniature metal sculptures that she has created for multiple local art shows, including the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, which has made them part of its permanent collection.
