BIMA continues to work to make its programs, projects, and spaces accessible and enjoyable to all.
- The museum is open 7 days a week, 361 days a year.
- The galleries are free of admission. Over 90% of its programs, tours, lectures, festivals, and artist events are free. Several need-based scholarships are available for tuition-based programs, summer camps, and workshops.
- BIMA provides wheelchairs and seating for its guests. All galleries, the Auditorium, the BIMA Bistro, the Museum Store, and all public spaces are wheelchair accessible.
- Wheelchair seating is available for all Auditorium performances.
- The stage is accessible with a ramp for guest lecturers, performers, and artists, and the green room is wheelchair accessible. Steps to the stage include handrails.
- The museum’s front doors and BIMA Bistro entry doors feature ADA electronic access buttons to activate opening from either side.
- The Museum’s reception desk includes a counter at a height to accommodate wheelchairs.
- A ramp leads from the elevator in the parking garage to the inside of the museum and features wall-mounted handrails.
- BIMA’s plaza, parking, elevators, restrooms, backstage spaces, archives, and administrative offices are also 100% wheelchair accessible. The parking garage includes an underground drop-off area and a marked, accessible garage parking space with elevator access. There are multiple designated accessible outdoor surface parking spaces
- Bathrooms include Single Sex and Gender Neutral options with Family Changing Areas. All bathrooms are wheelchair accessible and include handrails.
- Digital Programs extend the accessibility of BIMA’s programming, reducing barriers of geography, financial means, venue capacity, logistical, physical, and experiential barriers.
- Hearing Loop Connectivity and headsets are available for use upon request by Auditorium guests. American Sign Language Interpretation is available for certain performances with notice. Selected digital programs have subtitling as a viewing option.
- The Museum is accessible by public transportation and is located .3 miles from the Bainbridge Island Washington State Ferry landing with a slight incline.
- The BIMA Bistro can accommodate dietary restrictions and special requests with notice.
- BIMA’s education programs offer art interpretation and engagement for individuals with health and mobility challenges, those with memory loss, and their care partners.
- Free guided tours can be arranged with our staff for parties of up to 15 individuals –including all ages, those with special focuses, mobility challenges, or arts preferences. Art objects that may be handled in conjunction with these programs may be available with advance request.
